obama Surprised by Military Reaction: Pathetic

This was taken from ConservativesForum.com.

Bad press, including major mockery of the plan by comedian Jon
Stewart, led to President Obama abandoning his proposal to require
veterans carry private health insurance to cover the estimated $540
million annual cost to the federal government of treatment for
injuries to military personnel received during their tours on active duty.

The President admitted that he was puzzled by the magnitude of the
opposition to his proposal.

"Look, it's an all volunteer force," Obama complained.. "Nobody made
these guys go to war. They had to have known and accepted
the risks. Now they whine about bearing the costs of their choice? It
doesn't compute...”

"I thought these were people who were proud to sacrifice for their
country," Obama continued. "I wasn't asking for blood, just money.
With the country facing the worst financial crisis in its history, I'd
have thought that the patriotic thing to do would be to try to help
reduce the nation's deficit. I guess I underestimated the selfishness
of some of my fellow Americans."

It was a satire piece. But the underlying issue of the administration floating a plan that would have servicemen and women have to use their own private insurance to pay for medical costs associated with illness and wounds suffered as a result of service is true as was the fact that the administration was caught off guard by the vehement protest to the plan.

When will the legislative branch of government which gets benefits for life even for a two year stint in Congress, give up some of their health benefits?

Thanks for your follow up on this post.
I am also interested in teaching kids about the dynamics of health care issues. I am afraid that there is much misinformation about this topic. Do kids even know what an HSA is? Do they understand the various dynamics of Insurance Short Term? I hope we can educate our kids so that they can clearly articulate their feelings about such issues.
Let's keep accurate information out there and our kids will be able to deal honestly with the issues at hand.
