This video was written and produced by Mustang at Social Sense and narrated by Leslie at Blunt Politics. If you don't do anything else today, please view it. It makes the point of WHY we should be proud to be "Arrogant Americans" and how dare "Chairman O" label us that way!
Watch it and you will agree, it is a video all of America needs to see and hear. Feel free to post it (with attribution to the creators) on your blogs and websites. We need to get the word out that "Chairman O" is a traitor to our country, not a savior.
Okpulot, I am certain they will make the alteration. I myself am of native heritage, and understand your point of view, but did not notice the enemies reference. I'm sure your point of view will be appreciated and a correction will be made.
The photo is a depiction from that time frame in our history. I understand perfectly that there was blood letting on both sides in our history as a nation. I have Choctaw and Cherokee in my line. I know that there has been a lot of suffering at the hands of the US Government and European settlers in our history. There was also a lot of settlers who died in the process of making this nation whole.
I know there have been more native people who have served in the US Military per capita than any other group. The original native people have much to be proud of in serving and carving out our nation, but in the beginning it was not an easy row to hoe. My mother grew up in northern Arkansas and had to wear long sleeves and bonnets when working in the fields. Why? Because even in the 1930's there was much bigotry in the south and Grandma did not want her going into town and having to deal with being mistreated. I do understand this, but it is part of the history we have had to overcome.
Leslie's reference to settlers going West and encountering "hostile natives" is not a bigoted remark. It is part of history. It happened. Were the natives within their rights to feel hostile toward intruders... you can bank on it, they were. Were the children on reservations being forced to speak only English, dress in a fashion that was not their own, and not being allowed their own religion (trying to wipe out native culture) wrong. Yes, it was wrong. In fact it was Unconstitutional. Be it ever so aggravating and wrong, it is all part of our history. I consider it important to know history as it happened and learn from it. Never again should these things happen in a free society to anyone. Never again should people be forced out of their lands and homes, such as was done to the Cherokee, Creek, Choctaw, and other tribes east of the Mississippi when Jackson was President.
I agree with your point Okpulot, I honor your pride in our heritage, but I personally think that there is a difference in what people try to do in the here and now as far as profiling, and people simply stating history. When people try to imply that native people aren't motivated or try to attach other things in the here in now... you will see this ole gal take them to task. I am proud of my heritage, I like who I am and I believe in the person I can be. Mustang is a retired Lt. Col USMC and teacher. He is an outstanding writer and a thinking, compassionate person. Leslie is a fine person and neither has a bigoted bone in their body. I am certain they will be interested in having an exchange with you and finding a remedy, as it was not their intent to degrade natives, but rather give people an appreciation for the good people of all cultures that make up our society. I personally feel we don't need to apologize to anyone, because as a whole, we are a very caring, compassionate and good people.
I hope you can understand my viewpoint and we can discuss this further. I intend to make a friend request that I hope you will accept, as I think I can learn much from you.
