I really want fellow SGP members to attend, they are also stopping by the SGP convention in Nashville on the 18th, so this is a great opportunity for those who can go to TN. Anyway, please let me know if you would like more information. Thanks, Elizabeth
I really enjoyed your blog post this morning and am writing to express equal concern with respect to whether or not some of us are becoming complacent. The tea parties brought world wide attention to the cause of protecting freedom, not giving ground when it comes to sitting idly by, watching every foundation of our country being chipped away and the refusal to allow federal govt. and an administration that is hell-bent on total control and power change our entire way of life and reshape our country.
I know many of us carry that same burning passion to uphold our Constitution and protect our rights as we had on tea day. But, as you aptly stated, many also have to go forward with life and day to day responsibilities. As it is often said, "Democrats protest. Republicans go to work."
Within the Colorado chapter, I'm sensing a wane in interest. I think unless there are current additions posted frequently, people stop checking. Just before I began to write this, I checked and the last post was May 8. Admittedly, I could easily post something also but I've been commenting and blogging on the main page so as not to leave too long of comments on the Colorado comment page.
There were some post-tea meet-up's planned, both in Denver area and one in the Springs, which is where I'm from. Our meeting fell on a day when it was snowing really hard. One other woman showed up for our meeting. We talked and I felt a genuine interest on her part to try and recruit members and keep activities such as tea parties alive and well as wel move into campaign mode for the '10 elections. We tentatively planned an open house type meeting the day before Mother's Day. She indicated she had several contacts in the business community and felt comfortable making calls to secure a location--quite possibly a store such as an upscale women's western clothing shop here or Pottery Barn, etc. We had little time, but we were going to request air time on a local radio show to promote it. After a few email exchanges, she stopped contacting me and the entire effort fell flat. I've since joined the Colorado Tea Party Meetup group, but I'm the only person from the Springs. I'm also attending a GOP Women's luncheon this Monday and will see if I can generate interest in Smart Girls or whatever organization just to try and unite and bring women together.
I think a statewide effort should occur but also don't know what else to do to try and get the word out. I am not in a position of wanting to drive to Denver to meet people because we have 500,000 people down here, many women that want to find a 'home' to join an effort and help stop the madness that is occurring in the federal govt. right now. I wrote to the CO coordinator for the CO group page (Kathy) yesterday and have not heard from her.
I'm afraid if we don't use the CO group more frequently and try to come up w/ ways to get women on board and enthused, it will die out. Last fall, Team Sarah had a website and CO women, including myself, joined up and we exchanged views and encouraged each other to get out the vote and work hard at our local HQ's and such. In the last days before the election, it waxed and waned and has now basically died on the vine, at least in Colorado.
Any thoughts, suggestions, etc., you want to share would be great and I'd appreciate hearing from you.
Jennifer
