About Me

My name is John Huntinghouse. I am a native here West Valley City. I was born and raised here my whole life along with my beautiful wife Kara. I went to Pioneer Elementary, West Lake Junior High and then continued to Granger High School. These were wonderful local schools within the community that helped me a great deal to get to the place where I am today. There were many things that I learned from those schools and especially from the many wonderful teachers that taught at there. After high school, I attended the University of Utah and graduated with a Bachelors in Biology. I currently work at LDS Hospital as a genetic researcher in the Cardiovascular Research Department. As mentioned earlier, I have a lovely wife Kara, who is my best friend and my closest confidant. We have a beautiful one year old daughter named Maya. She is the center of our attention (literally, you should see the mess she can get herself into already).

I have been actively involved in politics ever since I ran with my friend Matt Bunkall for 5th grade class President and Vice-President. We won overwhelmingly by a vote of 42-12 (ok, I can't remember the exact number but we won nonetheless). The past couple of years I have been increasingly irritated by some of the decisions made by certain lawmakers. So enough was enough. I decided to get more actively involved in politics, supporting those who held the same principles and philosophy as I did. I started by just making phone calls and spreading the word to my friends and family for various campaigns throughout the valley. Last year I was hired on to help Bill Dew with his election campaign for U.S. Congress against Jim Matheson and learned a great deal about the political process through that experience.

It was at this point in time where I specifically looked at the representation that District 33 had. Neil Hendrickson is a fine, upstanding man. I knew his son quite well back in elementary school. However, I found his stance (or lack thereof) on various issues, increasingly in contrast with the views that I held as a conservative Utahan. I also was somewhat sadden at the lack of communication that resided between the constituents that he supposedly represented and himself. What made me even more frustrated was the lack of real competition for that seat put up by the Republicans. That's when I decided that I needed to run for this office. To give a real challenge to those views that are currently held by Representative Hendrickson. I also wanted to allow a forum where the average citizen that lives in District 33 could express their views, regardless of party affliation and actually have an impact on the representative that supposedly was representing them. I want to increase the accessibility of the representative to the people whom he or she serves. I want to give a voice to those who haven't had one for over a decade and a half. I want all these things because this is what I wanted as a citizen of this District 33, and this is the type of representative I will be if elected. This is why I am running and this is why I am asking for your help in bringing this new message to all those who live in district 33. Thank you for all of your support.

"You must be the change you want to see in the world." - Gandhi

I am running because I believe in the statement that the great philosopher Gandhi once stated, "You must be the change you wish to see in the world." The reason why I would like to see a change, is because I feel like my voice is not being heard. I am running because I believe that there are many who live in District 33 that are in my same situation. Nothing is more frustrating than not having your opinion matter. I believe that the government answers to the people, not the other way around. I b… Continue

Utah, The Economy, And Reusable Energy

On my blog post titled, Economic Development and Growth I received this comment from Chris Spencer:

"When you speak of tax laws that will sprout growth within the small business sector. What kind of tax laws do you refr to?

Also economically the state of Utah along with the United States is moving in a direction of Green House energy, Bio-Fuels and other sources of reusable energy. This is much like t

Market based answers for healthcare

There are some conservatives that would argue that our current healthcare system is fine, and needs no fixing. This is absolutely false. According to WHO (World Health Organization) we pay far more than any other country in both percentage of GDP and per capita compared with 29 other countries and we pay 33% more than Switzerland who is number two on that list. One would say that having the most expensive healthcare system is fine as long as we are getting the top-notch care. However, based off… Continue

Planned Parenthood: 62 abortions for every adoption referral

I just found this blog post from the North Carolina Family Policy Council. Blows me away. Click HERE for the actual story.
