Sadly, West Virginia is ranked by many national publications as having one of the worst legal system’s in the nation. These rankings deter job providers from bringing well-paying jobs to our state. Here’s where West Virginia ranks in just a few of the latest rankings:

Worst State to Start a Business: U.S. News & World Report (February 2, 2009) – “Perhaps not coincidentally, the state also ranks last in the number of entrepreneurs starting new businesses.” Full Story

Worst Legal Climate in the Nation: U.S. Chamber of Commerce Institute for Legal Reform (”Lawsuit Climate 2008″) – “West Virginia’s legal climate ranked last among the fifty states for the third straight year.” Full Ranking

No. 2 Judicial Hellhole in the Nation: American Tort Reform Foundation (2009/2010) - ”Until West Virginia adopts systemic reforms or shows consistent evidence of fair rulings, it is unlikely to shed its reputation as a Judicial Hellhole.” Full Report

Least “Friendly” Legal and Regulatory Framework: CNBC (July 23, 2009) – West Virginia ranks 5th worst in CNBC’s “Top States for Business 2009,” with the worst overall ranking in the nation with regard to state legal and regulatory frameworks. Full Story

5th Worst State for Business: Forbes Magazine (September 23, 2009) – After ranking 50th in the nation for back-to-back years, West Virginia now ranks as the 5th worst state in the nation for business. According to the Forbes rankings, West Virginia ranks second to last in terms of regulatory and legal climate. Full Report

As a former resident, who still thinks of the State of West Virginia as "home", it breaks my heart to read what you have written. I suspect without researching a word, what you have written is probably true. I have been gone for over 10 years now, but I have no doubt that not much has changed. I would ask, what if anything can I do to help you grow this movement. Mountaineers are always free, but freedom has it's responsibilities and I will live up to mine.

West Virginia has long been the toilet of our nation.Our leadership is at par with those in Washington. A handful of Super-Rich Tycoons own our Government in West Virginia. Our Congressmen, and other elected officials are the most corrupt in the nation.
Elections are bought and paid for by these tycoons, or Illuminati as some call them.
Loads of money is funneled into our state, and we, the citizens are the second poorest in the nation, but in the top in resources. We have Coal, Natural Gas, Oil, Nuclear power, hydroelectric and wind, and are given nothing for it but destroyed moonscapes, where mountains once stood. Topsoil and trees are plowed into mountain streams, leaving nothing but unstable, barren ground. Homes are flooded with mud every year due to this destruction. Residents who complain are met with Union and other paid thugs knocking them around. Water sources are contaminated, affecting water all the way to the sea.
When government roadwork is done in our area, out-of-state workers end up with the jobs. West Virginia's highest employer is Walmart. Need I say more?
I love West Virginia and it makes me sick to see what has been done to this once beautiful state. Millions of acres have been ravaged to the point that land values have dropped dramatically.
Now they want to tax us more? How will we get by when it is easier to live from public assistance than with two people in a home working? Our work ethic is strong here. We actually accept a lower standard of living, to be productive. If we are able, we work, if we luck into a job. We are peaceful and caring people. We have been silent too long. Our very existence is at stake. Hyperinflation will destroy West Virginia.
