Chris,
I am right handed so:
I hold my 9mm in my right hand with barrel facing my left. I put my left hand over the top like you would be sticking all four fingers into your palm with the thumb out like a thumb's up. Holding the top of it like that while firmly holding the rest of the gun properly with my right hand, I rack hard enough to the right to slide the top towards the back. That will chamber a bullet. Make sure you put the safety on. If you want to practice, now take the clip out, and take the safety off..........rack the slide while holding the pistol so the bullet will fall out. Reload bullet in clip. Leave safety off and do above steps. After bullet is in chamber, take the clip out and rack to remove one in chamber. This should leave the pistol cocked. The hardest thing for me is to UNcock at this poing. My 9's have levers and not buttons and I just can't seem to move the levers easily. So, I use my safety lever to uncock.

When Mike is gone, the pistols under the pillow are loaded with safety off. When I get out of bed, the first thing I put on before walking out of the bedroom is my holster and which ever one I'm going to wear. If you rack/cock/uncock enough, you will break it in. Just always be careful you don't jam a bullet in the chamber. I had that happen to me just the other day. That always gets me a bit undone.

The Contenental Congress has finished the Articles of Freedom. You can download and forward to all friends, family and lists. I've been waiting on this to be announced for so long. Hopefully this will be a wonderful Christmas gift to the American people and give us the breath of fresh air we so need.

The PDF file is to the right of the page when you bring it up. There are old links going around, but that AOF is the old one. This is the new 2009 version just finished.

I love my little .38 snub nose midnight special. But, worried about constant carry with our little on. We were both worried I might get into a position where the hammer might get extra pressure and discharge. I might end up doing ankle carry with it.

Chrisinator,
I find all new guns need breaking in to loosen the rack. I still have trouble with the button to release the rack once cocked, on my .380, one of my 9mm's and the 1911. So, Mike did take my .380 in and have the release button adjusted a bit and then he sat around during an LSU game and just racked the heck out of it. Some of the automatics are just hard in the beginning. Some are not. But, I will tell you, Mike took all of them to the range Thanksgiving afternoon and he was in heaven. All of mine and his .40 were right on the mark, his new 9mm was off even after he adjusted it at the range. He might trade it in for an upgrade and get him a 1911 .45 like mine. He'll lose a bit in value because his 9mm has been shot, but you hafta love your gun and know it is going to go where you point it. He had a blast with the Judge he bought me.

chris, for a newbie,i would suggest for personal carry a TAURUS lite weight protector--comes in .357 magnum for serious weork, but for practice can shoot lite loads cheaper .38 special--it small, and hammerless--under 400.00 new--i usually buy from a gun show or flea market where its cash n carry-

Ginger...what's the secret to cocking a 9MM. My husband has one and got me one. I just could not cock the thing. We traded it in and I now have a 20 Gauge Mossberg which you can't carry. In PA we have a concealed carry law which we have the permits for. I never thought of myself as a weakling and I felt a little stupid.

Of course this could all be mute. Read the following article.

Stephanie,
You will be amazed at how confident you feel once you start carrying. I'm naked without something on my hip. If I'm not carrying a purse, I tuck both my licenses in a pocket....the law ya know. ;-) The local Sheriff's deputies and Lt's really like my collection. I say mine because I've laid claim on several and Mike has claim on others. I have no problem packing the big boys. I love my guns. LOL

How nice of us to treat the POTUS to a $4,000 a night retreat. While many are unemployed and having to pinch pennies, this man is living the life of Riley. What a complete and utter disregard for what our fellow Americans and country are going through. Surely they could have gone home to Chicago for the holidays!!!

@ Grizz and Ginger, our 15 year old is getting a rifle for Christmas...along with safety lessons. He wants to learn how to shoot & hunt like my grandfather and father did/does. I will be the one learning and hunting with him because my husband is not physically able and you can bet your sweet betsy that I will be making a handgun/shotgun purchase down the road once I am more comfortable with them.
