• Children truly are the family's greatest treasure and most precious good. Consequently, everyone must be helped to become aware of the intrinsic evil of the crime of abortion. In attacking human life in its very first stages, it is also an aggression against society itself.

Politicians and legislators, therefore, as servants of the common good, are duty bound to defend the fundamental right to life, the fruit of God's love.

As far as the right to life is concerned, we must denounce its widespread violation in our society….

• [E]ven in the most difficult circumstances human freedom is capable of extraordinary acts of sacrifice and solidarity to welcome the life of a new human being.

I totally agree with you Ophelia. Best to climb the ladder and "test the waters."

Is anyone else reading "Going Rogue?" I am so loving that book

How nicely said. I don't know, but I get a little squirrelly thinking about voting in a person who was a protestant minister. Even if I weren't, I'd see it as throwing away my vote. I just don't think voters could get over that, and if he did win, I can't imagine the enemies he'd have. It would make governing that much more difficult. Maybe if he were a senator first, and voted on national issues it would help.

Hey Ophelia . . . I love Huckabee, don't get me wrong. I consider myself a conservative Catholic, but I wouldn't have voted for Huck. He's a terrific guy and I love his show. But I just thought he was too "nice" of a guy to be President. Does that sound weird? To me, presidents need to almost be made of steel, and Huck's made of 24k gold.

I heard a commentator say that one of the groups of conservatives who were least likely to vote for Huckabee is conservative Catholics. I laughed when I heard that. I couldn't vote in the FL primaries because I'm an independant, but Huckabee was definitely not my first choice. What do you think?

It seemed to me to be directly related to the debate on federal funding of abortions. It looks like a response to those in Congress who are attempting to drum up support for the healthcare legislation by saying it's what Ted Kennedy would have wanted; the killing of the unborn is wrong, no matter what name is attached to it.

So how does everybody feel about the fact that Patrick Kennedy was told by the RI bishop NOT to take communion anymore? http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/11/12/AR2009111209153.html

On the back of the DVD it says that Irena Sendler was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize . . . not that it really means all that much these days anyway.

On a lighter and happier note, here's a story that will cheer you up about what we already know, but that the media does not understand in the least: George and Laura Bush and the true meaning of compassion.
Anne Hayes Comment by Anne Hayes on November 13, 2009 at 11:54am
Just an FYI: The story of Irena Sendler is quite true, although the issue of whether the Nobel Committee specifically chose Gore over her is not so clear. The Nobel Committee for the Peace Prize does not release information on nominees and its processes. Having said that, the fact that the committee chose Obama this year (having accomplished absolutely nothing) and further exposing its blatant leftist bent, I have little doubt that the Committee was as ignorant and depraved as the Sendler/Gore story suggests.

Tonight I am going to watch the Hallmark move "The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler." She was a Polish Catholic social worker who rescued thousands of Jewish children out of the ghettos of Warsaw, Poland during WWII. She was captured and tortured, but later released. She would never break her silence on the identities of the children she rescued.

Irena was nominated for the Nobel Peace Price, but Al Gore received it for his work on global warming.

Just thought you folks would like to know that . . .
